On the evening of 3rd November, 1918, not too far from the village of Ors, the poet Wilfred Owen penned his last words - a letter to his mother in the notepad she had just sent him. He closed the letter with the words;
"Of this I am certain you could not be visited by a band of friends half so fine as surround me here. Ever Wilfred X"
He was killed the following day.
